Smoke Bombs

We’ve all seen secret agents on the big screen throwing a smoke bomb whenever they want to escape. For children with wild imaginations or for people who want to live their James Bond dreams, this type of firework is ideal.

Just like the name implies, a smoke bomb silently releases smoke, and the amount of smoke released depends on the size of the smoke bomb. However, it’s important to note that it’s best to let one off during the day since it may be hard to see it at night.

Fountains

For a quiet but beautiful display of sparks, a fountain firework is the best choice. All you hear is a soft and gentle whooshing, which makes it perfect for night-time celebrations. Fountains can last for a few minutes or so, but it may be hard to see the sparks if you’re standing at the back during a firework event. They’re also cost effective and you can even purchase some that release sparks in different colours!

Catherine wheels are great if you want to be extra festive. According to legend, the Catherine wheel was named after St Catherine who was tied to a spinning wheel and killed as a martyr. Despite its dark past, these wheels release beautiful sparks that go round a coil, and you’ll usually hear some crackling and whistling too.

Roman Candles

Roman candles tend to look like long tubes. This is because it’s usually made out of a cardboard tube full of balls. When lit, these balls will shoot out a colourful array of stars and can be noisy and crackly.

Rockets

As implied by the name, a rocket firework launches itself into the sky and explodes with a bang, showering the air with plenty of sparks. With the ability to fire up high into the night, this is the most common firework you’ll see in the sky and is a popular choice for celebrations and Guy Fawkes Night.
