On Friday 10th of December, International Animal Rights Day begins! This day is all about caring for all the animals out there and is a day for when the animal rights advocates “aim to persuade people that kindness and respect are owed to all sentient beings,” according to PETA UK. So, if you have pets, this day is a day to give them all the love they need and deserve. If you want to make sure that your furry friend is living their best life, keep on top of these following points to ensure that they’re happy and healthy.

Give them proper nutrition

One way to make sure they’re happy and healthy is to give them the right type of food in the right amount. This will help your furry friend to maintain a healthy weight and can help them to avoid weight-related problems in the future. If you give them a balanced diet, their nutritional needs are usually met. However, if your pet has any special dietary requirements, make sure you contact your vet. It’s also important to have fresh water available at all times and to limit the amount of treats you give them.

Make sure they have regular exercise

We all know how essential exercise is for us humans, which is the same case for your pets. Regular exercise keeps your pet physically active and fit, but it’s important to give your pet some mental stimulation too. You can do this by giving them toys to play with, playing with them, making them an obstacle course and hiding their treats. Teaching your pet new tricks can also help keep them engaged, as well as interested.

Make sure you visit the vets for check-ups

Having regular check-ups is crucial to ensuring that your pet is healthy. By going to check-ups on a regular basis, the vet will be able to detect any diseases and warning signs of serious illnesses. This can help you to figure out what your next step can be and what you need to do for your pet.

Give them a lot of affection

Having a strong bond with your pet is essential for theirs and your happiness too. Giving them lots of affection lets them know that they’re loved, so make sure you give them lots of cuddles, strokes and belly rubs. As a result, the emotional connection between you two strengthens and this improves their social interactions too.

Make sure you give them proper grooming

Grooming is an important aspect of caring for your pets too, which helps them to go about their daily activities. Grooming will usually involve trimming any long nails/claws, giving them baths and brushing their fur if they’re a longhaired breed. By regularly grooming your pet, you can also check for changes such as fur changes, bald patches and lumps and bumps. If you do notice anything concerning, make sure you contact your vet immediately.
