Dry Heat Cooking

As the name implies, this type of cooking doesn’t use any moisture, water or broth. Instead, dry heat cooking utilises the hot air circulating the food or any fat in order to transfer heat. This is the type of cooking you’ll usually have to do when you’re frying meat.

Sauté

This is another type of cooking method that you might find yourself doing once in a while. The word sauté comes from the French word sauter, which means ‘to jump’. When you sauté, you’ll usually be placing food in a pan over high heat. The food will look as if it’s jumping, hence the name, but the name can also be associated with the tossing of the food in the pan.

Stir-Fry

Stir-frying is another famous cooking method that a lot of chefs use. This is a Chinese cooking technique that consists of stirring and tossing the ingredients present in your pan and only uses a small amount of oil.

Searing

Searing is a type of cooking method that consists of browning the food. This will usually be over high heat and is a method used to caramelise the natural sugars already present in the food you’re making. With this technique, however, you’ll usually utilise a small amount of fat.

Broiling

Broiling will also need to be done by transferring heat onto food. This heat will usually be produced from a radiant, which will be located above the food. This radiant will then cook the food one side at a time. By doing this, browning can occur straight away.

Poaching

This type of cooking method utilises hot liquid and is a type of method that many people are familiar with. With poaching, you’ll usually have to put food in hot water. This low heat is perfect for food that are quite delicate, such as eggs. If you don’t want to rely on fat or oil, poaching is perfect since it can retain the moisture and flavour.
