Surrey Man Attempts World Record with 62-Mile Cricket Bowling Run-Up

Sam Bodoano, a determined endurance athlete from Worplesdon, Surrey, has completed a remarkable attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the longest cricket bowling run-up. Running through the night for a gruelling 14 hours, Bodoano started his journey at Lord’s Cricket Ground in London and finished by bowling the first ball to his father at Valley End Cricket Club in Woking.

A Marathon with a Purpose

Covering an impressive 62 miles (100km), Bodoano’s run was not just about setting a record but also raising almost £6,000 for The Ruth Strauss Foundation, a cancer charity. His endurance feat involved holding a cricket ball and wearing full cricket whites throughout the journey, with the added requirement of playing a subsequent game after delivering the initial bowl.

The Guinness World Record attempt targeted the longest cricket bowling run-up category. Although Bodoano has fulfilled the necessary criteria, the official recognition of his achievement requires a thorough review by Guinness World Records. A spokesperson indicated that the formal evidence review and verification process could take approximately two weeks, stressing the importance of the evidence submitted for official approval.

Inspiration for this endeavour comes from the current record-holder, Tom Dunn, who ran 15 miles (24km) from Bethnal Green to Wandsworth Common in London in 2024. Bodoano’s ambitious attempt significantly surpasses Dunn’s feat, irrespective of the verification process outcome. Bodoano’s marathon run has already captured the community’s attention, bringing significant awareness and support to the charity he advocates.
