Thanet District Council and East Kent College have agreed to work more collaboratively. Signing a Memorandum of Understanding which marks an enhanced partnership.

The strategic partnership agreement means the council and college will work together to help deliver the right skills the local economy needs to grow and flourish.

As part of the agreement, the council – a key employer in Thanet – will also help develop the skills agenda for the benefit of residents and local businesses so that the college is able to deliver programmes which meet the needs of a range of people.

The agreement will see both partners working to promote further education, training opportunities for those not in employment, education or training, apprenticeships, higher education, professional development and community learning.

Principal Graham Razey said: “Our college has long worked to ensure we are providing the most relevant curriculum for the business community across the district. This new memorandum gives us even more opportunity to deliver the right skills to ensure that Thanet continues to grow.

“It’s clear that Thanet district council has a strong commitment to growing the right skills across the district and we welcome this new partnership.”

The two organisations will also work together to promote and bid for funding to ensure further capital developments across the district. It will also allow the two partners to work in a more collaborative way on key projects. This is likely to be of real benefit to the College’s students, who will gain the opportunity to experience working on projects around the district.

Cllr Chris Wells, leader of the council said, “Thanet district council is committed to developing strategic partnerships to help improve training and professional development for residents and local businesses alike.”

“Signing a formal agreement and working more closely with East Kent College will increase our ability to develop more opportunities of lasting benefit to everyone in our community.”
