Snow Wardens – Could You Help Our Communities Keep Moving This Winter

Snow Wardens - Could You Help Our Communities Keep Moving This Winter

With winter getting closer, a volunteer Snow Warden scheme has been reopened by Dover District Council today.

Snow Wardens are volunteers from the local community who give up their spare time to help clear snow and spread grit on footpaths near their homes during bad weather. The scheme aims to coordinate and support the work of volunteers, and provides help and advice to those who register.

The scheme aims to help everyone in our communities go about their day to day lives. Councils work hard to keep the district moving when it snows, and KCC salts major roads across the county, but not all areas can be cleared, and volunteers are sought to help clear the footpaths around where they live.

Snow Wardens must be physically fit, and have basic equipment such as hi-vis jackets, gloves and non-slip water-proof footwear. Salt buckets and scoops can be provided if required. Volunteers can choose what area they want to cover and do as little or as much as they want to.

For more information, including a specially made video, or if you would like to volunteer as a Snow Warden, please see the Snow Wardens page.
