Sandwich Salutes the 40s and Celebrates the 50s

Sandwich Salutes the 40s and Celebrates the 50s is a 3-day event held in the beautiful town of Sandwich, Kent. By day Sandwich comes alive with people dressed up in 40s gear, there are amazing military vehicles and re-enactors, vintage stalls, music, dancing and so much more.

By night Sandwich comes alive to the sound of the 50s where angry young men put down their guns and pick up guitars and create rock and roll. This is truly an event not to be missed.

A weekend of re-enactments, music, and stalls celebrating the best of the 1940s and 1950s.

WHEN: Friday 8th, Saturday 9th, Sunday 10th May 2020.

There will be Park and Ride at Discovery Park all three days. Follow the signs on Sandwich bypass to Discovery Park for car park E and bus ride to Sandwich.

The P22 Gunship manned by a crew of 6 will moor on the River in Sandwich for the weekend. It will be the heart of a weekend of re-enacting the 40s with over 200 experienced re-enactors taking part. The likes of the Desert Rats, RAF, Red Cross Nurses, Military Police, Home Guard, Land Army Girls, number 4 Commando Group and more will bring to life scenes including rescuing downed airmen from the sea and stretchering the wounded to field hospitals.

This year also marks the 75th Anniversary of VE Day and Sandwich Community Events are planning a Sandwich Town street party!

It is anticipated that Sandwich Town shops, businesses and groups will take part and will dress in the 40s and 50s style.

Entertainments over the weekend include free live music on the Quay and in the town centre featuring 40s and 50s style singers and dancing.

The event is organised by the Sandwich Rotary Club, the P22 Trust and Sandwich Community Events Association. There will also be a prize draw which will raise important funds to ensure that this event and future celebrations will be a success. Prizes include overnight stays at The Salutation, The Bell Hotel and £250 worth of vouchers from the Sandwich Co-op, boat trips on P22 and more!!
