Havant Borough Council has been made aware of two more incidents where fraudsters claiming to be from the council have offered pest control services.

This follows a similar incident reported by a resident last week. Each incident has taken place in a different location within the borough and in each case, Hampshire County, Trading Standards and the police have been informed.

Residents have been contacted both in person and by telephone being quoted substantial amounts of money to deal with issues involving rats and other pests.

Havant Borough Council does NOT undertake any kind of residential door-to-door or cold calling offering services such as this.

If you receive a visit from someone claiming to be from Havant Borough Council you should:

  • Ask to see the persons ID – all Havant Borough Council staff carry an ID badge with their name, job title and the council’s logo on it. There are also details on the back of the card for confirming the identity of a badge holder.
  • Not invite anyone into your home without being certain of their identification
  • Not agree to any services that you are uncertain about or have not requested
  • Notify Havant Borough Council on 023 9244 6019, Hampshire County Council’s Trading Standards and the police on 101.

For more details about Trading Standards and to report an issue, please visit Hampshire County Council’s website.
