Public invited to view Eclipse Busway Extension plans for Gosport

Hampshire County Council’s revised plans for the completion of Phase 1 of the Eclipse Busway will be on display in Gosport on July 2, providing local residents with an opportunity to discuss the enhanced scheme with members of the project team.

Councillor Rob Humby, Deputy Leader of Hampshire County Council and Executive Member for Economy, Transport and Environment, said: “We’ve listened to the local community and worked with our partners to secure planning permission and funding for this much needed extension which will retain Rowner Road bridge. This event enables us to continue to engage with the local community and I would encourage as many people as possible to come and see the plans and chat to our officers about this exciting development.
“We have made a commitment to the people of South Hampshire to improve traffic and travel in the wider area. This capital investment will assist local businesses by   increasing connectivity and improve the travel options for everyone travelling in and out of the Gosport peninsula.”

The plans will be on display from 1pm-7pm on Tuesday 2 July in the Martin Ramsey Community Suite, Bridgemary School, Wych Lane, Gosport, PO13 0JN.

The scheme extends the existing busway south by one kilometre from the Tichborne Way / Hutfield Link to a new signal junction with Rowner Road. Planning permission was granted earlier this year to provide a ramped connection between the busway and Rowner Road and retain Rowner Bridge. This enhanced scheme will maintain the existing shared-use route for pedestrians and cyclists under Rowner Road.

The additional funding needed to retain Rowner Bridge was successfully secured by a joint Hampshire County Council and Portsmouth City Council bid to the Government’s Transforming Cities Fund.

At the event, information will also be available about plans to develop a wider South East Hampshire Rapid Transit (SEHRT) network, building on the success of the Star and Eclipse services, the Hard Interchange and Portsmouth Park & Ride. The proposed SEHRT network will comprise a multimodal travel system centred on key rapid transit corridors linking communities in Gosport, Fareham, Havant, Waterlooville and Isle of Wight with Portsmouth.
