Pop up street markets return for 2020

Street food, gifts, music, beers and cocktails will be coming back to Braintree and Witham as the much-loved street markets will officially return in 2020.

We have announced the popular markets will be making a return to both towns this year, with the first one starting in Braintree just 4 weeks away on Saturday 28th March 2020, and will be a monthly feature on the last Saturday of the month.

Visitors can expect cuisine from roast dinner wraps, salt beef and Reuben sandwiches, to vegan snacks and Spanish dishes. It’s also the ideal place to do a little gift shopping, revive yourself with a drink or stroll through the town to see an array of unique products on offer – from home-baked treats, artisan cosmetics to hand-crafted jewellery and homeware.

The street market has three confirmed dates over the summer in Witham, with the first one on Saturday 6th June – further details will be announced nearer the time. We are looking at creating new and exciting events for Witham town centre and is working with partners on what would be great for the town.

For the past two years, we have been running the free street markets which have proven to be a great success, with local businesses reporting higher sales, an increase in footfall and an all-round positive community atmosphere.

Councillor Tom Cunningham, Cabinet Member for Economic Development, said: “The street markets are a fantastic addition to our event’s calendar, so we’re really excited to bring them back to Braintree and Witham this year with a mix of old favourites returning, brand new stalls and a dose of live music and entertainment for visitors to enjoySince we introduced them two years ago, they’ve become a destination that people want to visit and spend time and are a real asset to both towns, with increased footfall for local businesses.”
