Two schools are celebrating after receiving £1,750 between them towards new outdoor equipment thanks to local councillors.

Devonshire ward councillors awarded £1,000 to Bourne School in Melbourne Road to buy outdoor learning equipment and waterproof clothing so that all pupils can take part in forest and beach school sessions.

They also contributed £750 towards St Andrews CE Infants School’s fundraising goal of £3,500 to install new play equipment in the grounds of the school in Winchelsea Road.

The money agreed by councillors Steve Wallis, Margaret Bannister and Stephen Holt is from Eastbourne Borough Council’s devolved budget.

A further £500 was given to support Eastbourne Hospitality Association’s online PPE shop offering items such as gloves, masks, aprons, hand sanitiser and anti-viral disinfectants for local businesses at discounted rates.

In a joint statement, the councillors said: “We are pleased to back this initiative that helps businesses with their PPE needs, as part of continued efforts to do all we can to support local firms during this difficult time.

“Schools too have asked for our assistance and we are delighted that youngsters will be enjoying the outdoors, through exercise and learning, as a result of this funding.”
