Old Country Crows at Canterbury Food Festival

Old Country Crows at the food county show.

It’s near impossible to go to a festival of any sort in the UK without seeing Kentish food stalls, whether it be our fabulous fruit, beautiful baked goods or the constants of Kentish cuisine such as the chutneys, the cheese, & of course the cider.  The recognition of Kentish products has gone from strength to strength, arguably the annual highlight of the Kentish foodie’s diary came and went this weekend. Canterbury food festival bought all of those things’ fine food things in abundance, plus marvellous music through the bandstand in Dane John Gardens.

CommunityAd were there to sample as many cheeses, ales and sausages as humanly possible. As well freebies from Goody Ales the highlight of the festival was sitting down and chatting to The Old Country Crows. The Kent based band are made up of four men, not all keen on the ‘old’ part of their name but all are in harmonious agreement when it comes to bringing the sound of seventy’s rock to whatever stage they find themselves on. Influences for the band range from The Beatles to Neil Young and they play exclusively their own music. Frontman Gary, tells us that they’ve built up a following known as the ‘Crowettes’, not to be confused with the potato croquettes on sale at the festival. The Old Country Crows were performing here at The Canterbury Food Festival for the third consecutive year.

Why do you keep coming back?

“Well because we get asked to play, but I think I’d come over here anyway even if we weren’t playing, it got everything, choice of food and drinks and is always well attended.

As was the case when we filmed the band perform live, they bravely battled the winds performing some stomping songs in speedy fashion as they joked ‘we’ve got to get on with it as we’re running out of time on our parking ticket, they still found the time to give us a shout out while up on stage.
