Oktoberfest Comes to Kent: A Bavarian Bash Across the County
Kent is bringing the spirit of Munich to its venues this autumn with Oktoberfest celebrations across the county, from Canterbury to Deal. Local hotspots are transforming into Bavarian paradises, offering German beer, traditional food, and lively entertainment reminiscent of Germany’s iconic festival.
Folkestone’s Bavarian Wunderland
The Goods Yard at Folkestone Harbour Arm has embraced a remarkable transformation, turning into a ‘Bavarian Wunderland’ complete with traditional oompah music and brimming steins. On weekends from September 19 to October 11, guests can participate in games and competitions orchestrated by the Harbour Meister, adding an interactive dimension to the festivities. Prizes await those decked out in classic lederhosen and dirndls, enhancing the immersive experience.
Celebrations Beyond Folkestone
Not to be outdone, the OktoberWest festival at Westerham Brewery near Sevenoaks promises an exciting fusion of Bavarian and local culture over two weekends. Guests can enjoy live music from the band Wunderpump, which offers a brass-infused medley of popular hits, as well as authentic German fare and locally brewed beer. This lively event allows attendees to book whole tables, ensuring a full share of the fun for groups.
In West Malling, The Malling Jug focusses on community spirit with a four-day celebration featuring a special range of German beers alongside their regular selection. The addition of mulled wine and elder apple spritz provides some unique twists to the traditional offerings from October 1 to 4.
Unmissable Events Across Kent
Canterbury’s Westgate Hall is set for one of Kent’s largest Oktoberfest gatherings, promising an atmosphere filled with long benches, festive decor, and an enticing communal vibe. The event, from October 2 to 3, promises robust entertainment with various DJs and a brass band, making it an irresistible rendezvous for beer lovers.
Deal’s Landmark Centre will host an evening of German-inspired revelry on October 10. From sing-along classics to a photobooth, this over-18s event captures the exuberance of Oktoberfest, encouraging Bavarian fancy dress and late-night dancing.
Tonbridge Racecourse Sportsground rounds off the festivities with its expansive Bavarian nights on October 23 and 24. Attendees can enjoy both beer and cocktail steins alongside a wide selection of drinks and tunes courtesy of Resident DJ Stevietee. With options for VIP upgrades, it’s a two-night festival not to miss.
A Celebration of Cultural Heritage
The array of Oktoberfest activities across Kent showcases the county’s enthusiasm for cultural celebrations and communal gatherings. These events not only bring people together but also highlight the melting pot of local and international traditions, enhancing Kent’s cultural landscape. Whether you’re an enthusiast of German heritage or simply a festival aficionado, this year’s Oktoberfest in Kent promises fun, inclusivity, and, of course, plenty of beer.
