Oh So Retro returns

Margate has become a resurgent tourist destination on the back of the art-led regeneration and an appreciation for the vintage. Dreamland repurposed as a throwback amusement park, the old town is clustered with second hand or “pre-loved” retailers which all act to charm visitors to the coast but one of the things that is often overlooked when praising the towns new/old cool appeal is the retro car scene and if you’re in town this weekend you’d have to be blind and deaf to not notice an army of retro vehicles descending on the town!

Retro vehicles and their loving enthusiasts are a plenty here in the isle of Thanet and for the first time in far too long this weekend they will be uniting among with many other from across the country at the Oh So Retro Car Show. The community of men and women who are the first to admit they probably spend a bit too much time and money of their horse-powered hobbies have been meeting under the OH SO RETRO banner since 2014 and collectively put on quite the show!

Speaking to the organiser the likeable Lee Collier it’s abundantly clear he’s been desperate to see some old wheels and some friendly old faces as Lockdown-governed last eighteen months has massively limited what Oh So Retro have been able to do. It’s great to see him back doing what he does best and for CommunityAd it’s a pleasure to be able to write an article about him bringing together a community of likeminded engine heads as opposed from looking similar to a Playmobil figurine (a response has still not been given as to whether the toys were based on the Margate man… we wait with baited breathe).

The coming show on Sunday 26th is the most anticipated in a long time for not the obvious pandemic-problems but also this one is set to be a belter. The car spots are sold out and have been for some time, meaning there’s 1500 cars for you to peruse and make involuntarily noises towards as you glance upon their shiny splendour. As well as Live Music all day, entertainment for the kid’s various food stalls and all the trimmings that make this show “The Essential annual Jolly Boys’ outing…” according to Retro Cars Magazine.

Tickets are available at the gates for just £10 and under 16s go free and well-behaved dogs are welcome on their leads. If you’ve got nothing on Sunday then go and get your retro thrills at the Oh So Retro Car Show.
