New mental health courses launched for Kent employers

As stress, depression and anxiety take increasing toll

Mental health charity Maidstone & Mid Kent Mind is launching a new range of  courses for Kent employers, with the latest official figures showing that stress-related illness is the greatest cause of people taking time off work.

Health & Safety Executive statistics show that last year, 45 percent of all working days lost to ill health in the UK were due to stress, anxiety and depression – an astonishing 11.7 million days.

Says Maidstone & Mid Kent Mind chief executive Julie Blackmore: “We have devised a range of courses to help tackle the main causes of stress and other mental health conditions.

“It is obviously in the interests of any private sector business or public sector organisation to help keep employees mentally fit – great for the staff, and vital for employers to help reduce the number of sick days.

“For years, employers have ensured there is someone available trained in first aid. We’re saying that taking care of employees’ mental health is equally important, particularly as it’s a growing problem.”

The courses being run by Maidstone & Mid Kent Mind include ‘Work and Well Being’, ‘Coping with Life’, ‘Mental Health Awareness’ and ‘Mental Health First Aid.’

Employers seeking further information about the courses should email [email protected] or telephone 01622 692383.
