Medway children get their primary school offer

primary school offer

More than 97 per cent of children in Medway who will be starting primary school in September have been given a primary school offer for one of their top three preferences.

Today, Friday, 16 April, families will start finding out which primary or infant school their child has been offered for September 2021.

Every Medway child whose parents, carers or guardians applied on time has secured a place and 3,299 Medway children have been offered places.

More than 91 per cent of children were offered a place at their first choice school.

The school admissions process for Medway is a huge task and involves the council processing primary school applications for 3,411 children, including 112 children from outside the Medway area.

This year 99 per cent of families used the council’s online application process to submit their preferences.

Cllr Josie Iles, Medway Council’s Lead Member for Children’s Services, said: “Finding out which primary school you’ll be starting your education at is an extremely exciting time for children and their families. I am pleased that more than 97 per cent of children have been offered a place at one of their top three preferred schools. Going to primary school is an important step for young children and I wish them all the best for when they start school. We are committed to ensuring all children in Medway receive the best start in life so they can learn well and achieve their full potential.”

Cllr Martin Potter, Medway Council’s Portfolio Holder for Education and Schools, said: “It is great news that the overwhelming majority of children in Medway have been offered a place at one of their preferred schools. I would like to thank all school staff for their continued hard work, throughout the pandemic, as well the council’s schools and admissions teams. I wish all children starting school in September the best of luck as they start their learning journey.”

Due to the coronavirus pandemic parents are advised to return any forms they need to complete, to accept or refuse their child’s offer, by email rather than visiting the school to hand them in.

If a family would like to appeal their child’s school place the appeal form should be emailed to the school, or to Medway Council, if the school is maintained by the local authority. There is a link in each child’s admissions offer email to the next steps guide which advises parents and carers where to return the forms. If a family decides to place their child on a waiting list for a school place forms should be returned to [email protected].

Medway residents who have not submitted an application yet can still apply online at medway.gov.uk/onlineadmissions. Please contact the School Admissions & Transport Team if you require a paper form or any assistance via [email protected].
