Lockdown locks shaved after wife saved by NHS

Lockdown locks shaved by Naz Cesur

An Ashford businessman is putting his lockdown locks to good use by shaving them all off to raise cash for NHS charities.

When the first lockdown ended last summer, Naz Cesur really needed a haircut, but he decided instead to keep growing his hair so that he could shave his head to raise funds for a good cause at a later date.

He had not decided on a charity at the time, but when his wife Monika received urgent – and excellent – NHS care when she collapsed with a blood clot after receiving her first Covid-19 vaccination, it made the decision much easier.

“Monika was very ill for a time, and I was so grateful for what the doctors and nurses did that I decided that my head shave should be in aid of NHS Charities Together,” explained Naz, who runs Nazure, a cleaning and property maintenance company based in Ashford.

More than a year on from the start of the first lockdown, Naz’s hair is now at shoulder length and he is hoping to raise £5,000 when he loses the lot in a sponsored shave at Charisma Barbers in Ashford town centre at 1pm on 21 June.

“I chose the day that the restrictions are currently expected to end because I thought it would be appropriate,” he said. “It’s been a tough time for everyone, particularly the amazing NHS staff, and I hope people will support the cause by sponsoring me.”
