Life at CommunityAd – A welcoming week

As I write this it has started to rain outside which only means the weekend is nearly upon us. Of course, it’s going to be sunny and hot all week to only turn miserable and wet for when we are off work! Typical British weather this week but we’re all welcoming the weekend to recharge after the EXTREMELY productive week we’ve had!

The sales team have been in great spirits this week! Our sales manager Kat is now off on holiday preparing for her big day next week! We are all so excited for Kat and a few of us will be joining her in Gibraltar next week! Congratulations to Kat and Alan, CommunityAd wish you both a lifetime of love and happiness! Our sales team have also been in high spirits welcoming in the newest addition to our team, Louise has joined our sales team and has had a flying start! A big welcome and well-done Louise!

This week from editorial, Matt spoke to singer and actor Nicki French, best known for her 1995 dance cover version of Total Eclipse of the Heart and for representing the UK at the 2000 Eurovision Song Contest! As a former resident of the town and Homewood School student, Nicki will be featuring in our upcoming Tenterden magazine where she discusses her musical influences and most memorable moments in her career to date.

Meanwhile, Callum had the pleasure of speaking to James Cosgrove who has recently helped raise and release over 150 ducks to Canterbury’s River Stour with the help of his full duck house set up, otherwise known as Duckingham Palace. You can look forward to reading about this in the next issue of our Canterbury CommunityAd Magazine.

Hands up who loves receiving post? We all love welcoming post and Alice was very lucky this week receiving a book in the post from local author John F Bennett titled: Memories of a Kentish Village; a childhood spent in more innocent times including a foreword by Michael Morpurgo. Our week in editorial cannot be summed up without mentioning the fact it has also been a very insect induced 5 days. On Tuesday, Matt was greeted by a mysterious friend whose identity puzzled the entire team as we attempted to guess what it was and whether our lives were in imminent threat!

I’ll be honest, I for one screamed and immediately left the editorial room. Thankfully Callum was on hand to take a snap and use the app PICTURE INSECT where we were able to identify our pal as a Western Conifer Seed Bug.

At home, Callum was greeted in the evening by a Hornet mimic hoverfly – look at it, it doesn’t look very friendly does it!

To top it all off, again Matt, who seems to attract insects ALL the time (probably because they know he won’t kill them), was shockingly greeted by what he described as ‘the biggest moth in the world’ just hanging out on his freshly washed shorts. JUST LOOK AT THE SIZE OF IT!

Comments have been made about why there are so many bugs. Speculation has it that Matt’s desk could be the culprit as it’s an absolute tip (much to Kelly’s annoyance) despite the fact he got a desktop Henry Hoover (see Henry featured on the image of the Conifer Seed Bug). Don’t worry if you are reading this and panicking that one of these unwanted beasts may land in your home soon. They are completely harmless and we’d like to reassure our readers that no insects were harmed by editorial. The unwanted visitors stuck around for a little longer before flying off to their next destination. As always, our graphic design and publishing team have been working hard, round of applause to Georgia, Niki, Glynne, Matt and Steve for getting Dover, Overton & Oakley, Herne Bay, Romney, Witham and Great Baddow magazines all to print this week!
