Life at CommunityAd – An 80s kinda week!

LifeAtComAd - 80s

You may be sitting there wondering why this week’s blog is titled ‘an 80s kinda week’, well read on to find out why I decided this title was apt!

Apart from the fact we haven’t been smoking and drinking at our desks, pretty much everything else has been old-school 80s! Everyone has been sat at their desk typing away getting adverts designed and books to print whilst our distributors have been extremely busy out hand-delivering our magazines through your doors!

Everything seemed bigger and better in the 80s, so this week we have gone all out. Apart from today (because she has straightened her hair), very much like the 80s, Georgia’s had big hair all week… Sarah in digital sales has been ‘Hungry Like The Wolf’ and has had a mega fantastic week in sales with many new customers coming on-board with our online advertising, and imitating iconic song ‘Girls Just Want To Have Fun’ our graphic designer Glynne decided to turn up rather late to work today (which he has never done before in all the years of working here) which got a few of us worried. Turns out he just wanted to have fun and had one too many drinks last night! TUT TUT… luckily we welcomed graphic designer Matt back to this office this week! Welcome back we have missed you!!

Meanwhile in editorial, Matt had a bit of a nostalgic week as he spoke to Michael Willson AKA Cobra from Gladiators. Keep your eyes peeled on our next Rye magazine for that interview! As much as Matt enjoyed reliving his childhood, jumping on the walls to recreate the acts of Cobra and Wolf, he also enjoyed speaking to an entrepreneur of the future, Alec Conway who spoke to us about his brilliant design Project Dignity. Alec is the first UK winner of Samsung’s Solve for Tomorrow competition and through Project Dignity, the Rochester man aims to solve the problem of homelessness in the UK so watch out for our upcoming Rochester publication to find out more!

Our CommunityLad Dave has had a touch this week and finally got his wish to head along to Academy FM this afternoon to interview the very lovely Debbie Day- you can catch up with this in the next issue of our Thanet CommunityAd Magazine. And whilst the majority of editorial have been busy with their stories, our kid Callum has managed to bag 2 days off this week which has been spent at Sandown Park Racecourse where he not only had a little flutter and dressed to the nines but also got to see his hero Craig David live and in the flesh!

Special mention for Niki as she made yet another mega batch of her old-school sausage rolls, with and without onion! Thanks Niki, as always, they were amazing!

Now it’s nearly the weekend and what started out as a small trip the Dreamland has now become majority of the girls at work heading to Sara Cox: Just Can’t Get Enough 80s tonight! Absolutely buzzing with our luminous neon gloves, heart-shaped glasses and flashing whistles at the ready! If you’re there this evening, we’ll see you there, and if not, we hope you have a fantastic weekend whatever you’re up to!
