The Ladies of Cranbrook Rugby Club

Lyndsey Posey has been a regular at Cranbrook Rugby Club for over half a decade, initially she was an avid fan supporting her two sons, until more recently when she got fed up with standing watching and thought to herself, “I’ll give rugby a try!”

Swapping the side lines for the scrums! CommunityAd had the pleasure of a chat with Lyndsey about the joys of being a Hooker for Cranbrook Ladies Rugby team.

Women’s rugby is finally getting the coverage that it deserves, and is proving very popular; about time isn’t it?

In the last few years I have noticed the difference in the publicity the ladies’ game gets. It’s fantastic as it has helped the grass roots ladies game grow massively, it definitely helped us at Cranbrook Ladies.

What’s your earliest memory of rugby?

I grew up with a rugby loving family, but never had the opportunity to play at a young age. I tried briefly when I was in the armed forces but we had the struggles of lack of numbers. My first real taster was at Cranbrook RFC; I just fell in love with the game and everything it brings, it’s a real family affair for us too!

The club looks like a truly fun and inclusive club to be a part of, I particularly enjoy your Q&A’s with the players. What aspects of the club do you most enjoy?

Everyone is just so friendly and welcoming; it really is all inclusive. Both of my sons play, my husband and myself! We’ve made some great memories and lovely friends since we joined the club. Most of all though, my team – they are true friends and couldn’t imagine life without them now. My sons have gained lots of rugby mums!

If there are any readers who are wrestling with the thought of giving rugby a go, why should they? What are the benefits?

The benefits are endless, since being a member we’ve made lovely friends, a great support network amongst friends, the fitness, health benefits, social life! If you like laughing till your tummy hurts, having fun whilst enjoying a bit of competitiveness then it’s the sport for you. The club is just a fantastic place to be whether you’re a player or a non-playing member.

Where do you play and how can readers get involved?

I am a forward and currently play Hooker, I love it in the forwards, it’s where all the fun is! Our ladies team trains on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8pm and play games on Sundays, everyone is welcome and joins in at their own pace. Full support and encouragement are always given, we move forward as a team.

With the Six Nations currently underway there’s no better time to get yourself or somebody you know out on to the rugby pitch to practice your dummies and penalty kicks.
