RESTORATION PROJECT | STAUNTON CP

We’re delighted that the restoration project at Staunton Country Park is drawing to an end. The multi-million pound project has seen elements of the park restored while also adding some fantastic new facilities.

The coach house is now home to a brand new tea room and an overflow car park is set to open soon. Two follies commissioned by Sir George Staunton in the 1800s have also been beautifully restored.

HEDGEHOG HOMES | HIBERNATION TIME

This month, hedgehogs will be bedding down for the winter. With their numbers in the wild dropping, it’s important they find somewhere safe to hibernate away from predators.

WILDLIFE WISDOM | FROM OUR RANGERS

Now it’s autumn, hedgerows, shrubs and trees are full of berries, fruits and nuts, which birds and small mammals are feasting on. Look out for jays and squirrels burying nuts to eat when it gets colder and food is scarce.

Fungi grows in all sorts of different places from dead trees and fallen branches to the woodland floor and even grassland. Remember, some fungi can be deadly if eaten so it’s best to leave them for others to admire too. It’s also a great time to look for spiders in gardens, along hedgerows and in heathland.

THE VOLUNTEERS | RIGHTS OF WAY TEAM

We have a team of amazing volunteers working up and down the county ensuring that Hampshire’s public rights of way and footpaths are ready for you to enjoy. Emosi (above, left) has enjoyed that the role has kept him active and Alison (above, right) loves how the role has taken her to new parts of the countryside she’s never seen before.
