Folkestone & Hythe launch new anti littering campaign: Pick me up before you go-go!

Pick me up before you go-go! is a  parody of a 1980s Wham! classic heads a striking anti-litter campaign launched by Folkestone & Hythe District Council this week (July 2018).

The fun and catchy Pick me up before you go-go! take on Wake Me Up Before You Go Go aims to persuade people to put their litter in a bin or take it home after they’ve visited the district’s beaches and parks.

go-goChildren from a local performing arts group, NEON, star in a music video of the re-worded Pick Me Up Before You Go Go and some brave council staff gave up their lunch break to make a cameo appearance. Singing drinks cans also have a starring role.

And bright 1980s-style posters and billboards will be appearing across the town to back-up the message that leaving litter is a no-no.

It would be great if everyone could get behind this campaign and start singing along too – maybe even make their own video.
The more people who support it, the greater the chance of the message hitting home – and less litter being left behind. Councillor Stuart Peall, Cabinet Member for the Environment

Council teams work hard to keep the district clean and litter-free.  Extra staff, bins and vehicles were brought in over the summer to help keep pace with increased demand, but Cllr Peall said we all had a role to play.

Cllr Stuart Peall said:

We need everyone to do their bit too. If you’ve enjoyed yourself on one of our fantastic beaches or in our parks or gardens, please put your litter in a bin or take it home. Pick it up before you go go!
