A feast of fun in Hampshire schools

'local solutions' grants

It’s the 25th anniversary of National School Meals Week, 12– 16 November 2018; a jubilee of an opportunity to highlight all that is great about school meals while having a feast of fun.

Our school meals provider, HC3S, is taking part in the Great Roast Dinner Day, with families invited into schools to enjoy a roast dinner with the children, and sample for themselves the Red Tractor and RSPCA assured British meats and delicious seasonal vegetables. Speak with your school for further details.

After the success of last year’s Yeo Valley Bake Offs, HC3S are visiting schools up and down the county, demonstrating that you don’t have to be on The Great British Bake Off to have fun baking. Children will learn about reducing sugar, making butter from milk, organic yoghurt production and farming.

Live cooking events will be taking place across Hampshire, as school cooks team up with colleagues at Quorn. Pupils have the chance to taste meat-free alternatives and take part in a competition open to families to create exciting new flavoursome dishes.

The #cookeditmyselfie campaign is a chance for not only our HC3S staff to demonstrate their talents, but this year school staff, parents and pupils are encouraged to take part too! All you need to do is to encourage a photo and a tweet of great school meals. Why not join in, tweet your entries to @NSMW using the #cookeditmyself. There’s a prize of £500 worth of marketing resources or equipment for the school up for grabs.

Finally, for the first time in Hampshire, we’ll have one of our hard working, devoted team members taking part in the ‘Host a Chef’ initiative. Host a chef is an exciting opportunity that allows school chefs to spend a day in the kitchen of some of the top restaurants in the country, working alongside the most celebrated chefs in the catering industry. This year HC3S are working with Chef Luke Holder, one of the Great British and Italian talents, based at Limewood in Lyndhurst.
