Whitstable Castle Artisan Farmers Market

Maya may have only moved to Whitstable from Southend-on-sea at the start of lockdown last year to be with her boyfriend and to help with his business Urban Farm-It, however, she delights in the atmosphere in wonderful Whitstable telling CommunityAd “I can honestly say it is very rare to walk down a street and have people be so polite and say good morning, which is wonderful. Whitstable is definitely a beautiful place and the more you walk the more find.”

If you were to walk to Whitstable Castle on selected dates this year, you’ll certain find more, in fact you would find a brand-new artisan farmers market set up by Maya. Having worked in the event industry all of her life it was only last year that Maya discovered the joys of the market. “I started trading at farmers markets last year and loved the community aspect of them. So, to keep me out of trouble and busy I decided to create my own event company called Createo. I decided to start strong and hold the first market at the Castle.”

You couldn’t wish for a more stunning setting for the market, could you?

You certainly couldn’t. The grounds and the castle are so well kept and such a historical part of Whitstable! It fits my mental image of the perfect location. Visitors will be able to meander through the castle grounds and sample some of Kent’s finest artisan produce and crafts.

More people need to visit and hopefully the market can become a major attraction for them!

The Artisan Farmers Market will allow for independent crafters to sell their wares, have you been surprised with the creative talents of people in the area thus far?

To say the least I am AMAZED! There are so many small businesses with such talented crafters and great products! I can’t wait for them to get trading and showing the public, the past year has been very hard for small businesses. But as they say, under pressure diamonds are made and I can assure you, we have a few!

If someone is reading this and is a bit of a crafter themselves why should they consider getting in touch and perhaps getting a stall?

I would say email me directly at [email protected]. It’s a wonderful sense of community between traders and all the general public that attend. It will be a great promotion for your business and a great way to shake off the lockdown blues! I have been promoting the market via social media, leafleting and much more so we are hoping for great attendance.

After a year of consumer habits being concentrated online why is it so important that now we can do so, we shop local?

Shopping local not only helps support small independent businesses but also boosts the local economy. The beauty of attending markets is you also get to appreciate the background of the product and meet the creator.

When can readers pop down to the market over the coming months?

10am-2pm – 1st May, 6th June and 3rd July.
