Thanet Wanderers U14’s to travel to Netherlands

An exciting opportunity for local young rugby players is just around the corner for Thanet Wanderers U14’s.

In March 2024, Thanet Wanderers U14’s are travelling to play in the Hilversum International Youth Rugby Tournament in the Netherlands and partake in an experience of a lifetime.

The squad will be playing against teams from around the world and building some long lasting friendships at the same time through the love of the game.

To help raise funds for the trip, the squad set up a fundraiser and chose to undertake a massive challenge of running, rowing and cycling the return distance from Thanet Wanderers Club to the location of the tournament.

The goal is to raise £1,500 to cover the cost of a bespoke playing kit, tour T-shirts and hoodies. If the amount is exceeded then the extra will go towards organising extra fun events for the boys whilst they are away.

The Hilversum International Youth is a one-day festival that’s been running for over 20 years and over 80 teams from across the UK and Northern Europe take part every year.

The challenge is the equivalent of running from Thanet Wanderers to the Dover Ferry Terminal, which is a total of 44 miles, rowing from Dover Ferry Terminal to Calais Ferry Terminal which is a total of 41 miles, and cycling from Calais Ferry Terminal to Hilversum Rugby Club in Holland which is a total of 437 miles.

This is an incredible opportunity for our local rugby players, not only will it be a lifelong memory for everyone involved, it can really help develop the passion and love for the game.

The fundraiser is currently active on JustGiving and if you have any pennies to spare, we are sure it will go a long way into supporting the local rugby club.
