Springfield Football Club

Springfield Football Club was established in 1935 and has a long proud history of providing football in the community.

The club moved from its previous home at Pollards Meadow on the corner of Lawn Lane and Church Lane in 2002 to a new purpose built clubhouse at Springfield Hall Park, situated at the end of Arun Close. This move enabled Springfield Football Club to grow extensively, as well as host many home games on the same day due to its continued support from the council.

Over many fields surrounding the clubhouse we have a total of 13 pitches covering all formats of youth football (5v5, 7v7, 9v9, 11v11). Included in the above is our Main Pitch, adjacent to the clubhouse. This pitch is used by our eight Senior teams of which there are two development teams as well as our youth teams that play in the Essex Junior Alliance League.

A programme of development and a pathway is key to the club’s success and our Chairman John Meates emphasises this on a regular basis. John has been Chairman for nearly 20 years and his commitment to the club is without question, it is a second job, as it is for the 100+ volunteers that help make this club so great.

These volunteers are all ex-players of the club that form part of the committee or are parents of players that play for the Youth set up of which there are 60 teams ranging from Under 7’s through to U17’s.

Springfield FC is one of the biggest, if not the biggest football club in the area. We are continually improving the standards on and off the pitch, one being the emergence of girls’ football over recent years. Essex FA Development Officer Emma Burden is part of the Springfield coaching team and strives hard to get more girls involved with playing football at an early age.

The club now has 6 girls’ teams as well as its ever growing wildcats football training sessions that take place at Springfield Hall Park every Saturday morning, 9:30am – 10:30am. We also have our Reception Group for the boys aged 4+ on Sunday mornings at the same venue, 9:00am – 10:15am. These sessions are open to anyone of any ability so please visit our website www.springfieldfc.co.uk for more details.

We are extremely proud to be an accredited Charter Standard Football Club and we work hard to make sure that the 100+ volunteers and the 800+ players all adhere to the standards that are required.

We make sure that each Manager and Coach involved with our youth teams are all DBS checked and also make sure that they all have an up to date safeguarding certificate as well as first aid.

We also make sure that they have all completed a UEFA Coaching Course and support each and every one to become better coaches by improving their knowledge by having extra coaching lessons by the Essex FA Team.

If you have a vested interest in coaching football and would like to join the team then please get in touch. You do not have to volunteer as a coach, you could also volunteer as someone who would like to spare a few hours every Saturday setting up the main pitch for the Senior teams or to volunteer a few hours on a Saturday and Sunday in the Snack Bar or the clubhouse bar.

We welcome all volunteers openly, we are very much a community club and therefore welcome the local community with open arms. Finally, can we thank the local community for their ever growing patience and tolerance at the weekends as the club continues to find ways of providing football for all at the largest football club in Chelmsford.

We all know how sport is a great way of learning social skills for young children but it also helps our health in both Adult and children, particularly our mental health. We hope that we can welcome you with a friendly face if this is something that you struggle with.

Springfield Football Club would like to thank the many sponsors it has. They are an integral part of the running costs of football. We keep the fees for each season as low as possible in order to allow everyone the opportunity to play the game. The fees we charge do not cover the costs associated with football. Outside events and fundraising is just as important. Pitchside sponsorship is available on our main pitch.

If any local businesses are looking for advertising opportunities on the main pitch or would be willing to sponsor a team then please get in touch. We are also looking for a club sponsor to sponsor the whole club as we enter in to a new phase of development at the club.
