SHARE Sunningdale celebrates 1st birthday!

We are getting ready to celebrate our first birthday at SHARE at Hope Church Sunningdale.

We opened our doors to the community with our weekly food share event in late November 2022. Since then, nearly every week, we have collected surplus food from local supermarkets and bakeries that would have otherwise gone to waste. We have given away this surplus food to anyone who wants to come and fill a shopping bag. So far we have given away at least 2000 bags of free food!

Every week we have at least 40 visitors, many are regular guests, but we also see new faces weekly. As well as collecting a bag of food our guests enjoy refreshments and conversation with the volunteers and other guests. The food share has become a real social event with guests arriving early and often staying afterwards to chat! There’s a lovely welcoming atmosphere, the buzz of conversation, endless tea and coffee, and oftentimes, cake!

We have offered several courses which have run Tuesday morning, before the food share. Currently we are running The Bible Course, an 8 week course giving an overview of the whole Bible. We start the morning with a sausage or bacon bap, watch that day’s video and then have a good discussion. Afterwards, course participants visit the food share.

If you haven’t been along to Hope Church to visit the food share, do come along! You’d be most welcome. It’s open to anyone, no voucher/referral is required. You just need to bring a normal size shopping bag to fill. Help us to reduce food waste and make some new friends at the same time!

The food share is open every Tuesday 12:00pm-1:00pm. We offer refreshments from 11:15am. You can follow SHARE at Hope Church Sunningdale on Facebook to keep up to date with what’s happening.
