The Rye Quiz Trail

The beauty of Rye is currently being explored through a Rye Quiz Trail created by mother and daughter trio – Liz, Becky and Laura – and it’s open to anyone who would like to delve into Rye’s illustrious history.

We caught up with the Quiz Trail trio, who have created 15 trails so far, to find out a little bit more about Rye Quiz Trail and how local readers can get involved.

For readers who might not know, what does a Quiz Trail consist of and how do people take part?

“We put together trails which pick up the highlights – we point you to look up, look down and all around as you follow the circular trail. The clues are set from interesting features around the town so you really get to see lots of things you might have missed if you just walked around. Alongside there are lots of pages of local history and stories, all in short articles, so you can take the trail home and have a good read through.”

What inspired you to create a Quiz Trail for Rye in particular?

“Rye is, as everyone knows, such a special place. We’ve visited it many times over the years. It’s beautiful to look at with fantastic views from all sides. More than that though, is the amazing history of the area.

“We’ve been so pleased with the response we’ve had to the trails. It’s lovely to have had emails and comments such as ‘we’ve lived here 30 years and still learnt some things we never knew’. It’s all been very positive and people say they’ve had a good laugh with their friends doing them – especially when they do the children’s clues as well as the adults.

“They are £8 but we’re offering them at half price at £4 with free p&p through this year as we want to offer a low-cost fun activity for people to enjoy. One copy is all that’s needed as they can be shared by a family or small group so it’s great value as an outing.

“We’ve been visitors to Rye as day trippers and holiday makers and every time we visit, we find a happy, thriving, cheerful town and a large number of tourists enjoying the town.”

At the moment the trails are for sale on their website but the trio would love to join up with local businesses in the area so people can buy them locally. To find out more and undertake your Rye Quiz Trail, visit www.quiztrail.co.uk.
