Kings Hill Active Retirement Association

The Kings Hill Active Retirement Association (abbreviated to Kinara) is a club for people, aged over 50 and not in full time employment, who are resident in Kings Hill and surrounding areas.

Kinara are affiliated to the Kent Active Retirement Association (Kentara) and aims to foster friendship, good fellowship and wellbeing by providing opportunities for social cultural and leisure activities. Formed in 2002, Kinara has been celebrating 21 years and meets at the Community Centre every 3rd Thursday of the month at 2pm.

The meetings start with the Chairman speaking for about 20 minutes, followed by a tea break, then a visiting speaker for an hour or so, and usually finishes at around 4pm.

Speakers cover a wide variety of topics and recently we have had talks on the demise of Concorde, American Presidents, The Poison Umbrella murder etc. Scheduled for November was The History of Magic.

Speaking to us at CommunityAd Vice Chairman Richard Tessier explained: “Every month we try to organise a different event, such as a Breakfast Club (at the Golf Club), a Garden Party (weather permitting) with strawberries and cream, a holiday break here or abroad – we have been to Bruges and Le Touquet in the past, Quizzes, Petanque, Short Mat Bowls every Monday afternoon and an Arts and Crafts group on Monday and Friday.

“We are planning a programme for next year which will be varied and include a visit to the Catering College in Broadstairs for lunch – always popular – and a holiday break in Harrogate. This year we went to Sidmouth.”

Kinara is a friendly group of people who are over 50 and not working full time and new Members are always welcome. Contact details are on the website but anyone not conversant with the computer, which can be quite daunting even for Silver Surfers, can contact Richard on 01732 845717.

At present Kinara have close to 180 Members but always have room for more, and it’s a great way to meet up likeminded people and make new friends.
