Herne Bay family fundraise for Pilgrims Hospice

In our lives we will all face trying times, and one of the ways we persevere is through the support we receive through a number of channels.

One local family has set up a fundraiser on behalf of the Pilgrims Hospice to say thank you for the amazing care shown by the team at Pilgrims Hospice, Margate. The fundraiser was set up by Amy Cullen, on behalf of their father Stuart Cullen who was admitted to Pilgrims Hospice earlier in the year.

Speaking to us about the emotional tribute to their father, and the staff at Pilgrims Hospice, Amy explained: “The Pilgrims Hospice, Margate, provided support to us all at an incredibly difficult time. We were comforted to see such professionalism and friendliness from the staff towards our dad, it was such a relief to trust that he was receiving the care that he deserved.

“The staff went above and beyond to help make our dad comfortable and happy in his final weeks. The chef even brought him in some whelks because he’d told her they were his favourite, nothing was too much trouble. The staff were happy to take time answering any questions or concerns we had with a friendly face and copious cups of tea/coffee.

“The whole family are truly grateful to the hospice for the kindness and care they provided at such a devastating time.

“It was actually my father’s suggestion to ask family and friends for donations to the Pilgrims Hospice in place of funeral flowers, we all agreed it was a lovely idea but I don’t think any of us expected to raise as much as we have! We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of our family and friends and we are truly grateful and touched to see how loved he was by so many.”

The final total raised in the end, when all of the cheques and cash donations were added was an incredible £1,800 to a well-deserved cause.
