Fancy the Whitstable 10k this May?

Was running one of your resolutions this year? If so, why not sign up to the Whitstable 10k this May?

As we are now fully into 2024 and recently had the pleasure of experiencing Blue Monday on 15th January, dubbed the most depressing day of the year, many of us will be deep in the throes of whatever New Year’s resolutions we have set for 2024.

Some resolutions, much like my own, often fizzle out after a few weeks but more determined individuals see the start of a new year as the beginning of an exciting lifestyle change. Walking, swimming, eating healthier, reading more, drinking less are just some of the well-known goals we set ourselves alongside the ever popular yearly challenge to run more.

The all-weather sport activity has a plethora of benefits including burning calories, boosting confidence, reducing stress levels and improving cardiovascular health.

With the Whitstable Parkrun taking place every Saturday at 9:00am on Whitstable Promenade, local residents can join in on the free, friendly 5k event by registering first online via www.parkrun.org.uk/whitstable

And who knows? Maybe a few months after some 5k sessions, you might want to go one step further and run a 10k? Well, Whitstable have got you covered for that as well.

The Furley Page Whitstable 10k takes place on 6th May at 09:30am from the Waterfront Club. This popular seaside event on the Kent coast is organised by Sporting Events UK, in partnership with Canterbury Harriers, and has been a popular fixture in the Kent running calendar for many years.

The course starts from Tankerton Slopes and goes out to Hampton Pier at Herne Bay. The terrain is mainly flat, with the second half of the race being along the promenade by the beach huts, which makes it great for beginners and equally for those looking for a quick time.

Entries are open and you can register your place by going online and visiting www.sportingeventsuk.com/enter-an-event/the-whitstable-10k
