Enjoy Ellington Park in Ramsgate this summer

With summer approaching, Ellington Park is a welcoming place to relax and enjoy nature in beautiful surroundings either in the wildlife and pond area or the wider park or for the more energetic to exercise where you can use the Trim Trail and table tennis equipment. Please look out for details of our regular tree and nature walks.

If you’re looking for some summer reading, stop by the second-hand bookshop, which is open again (weather permitting!) on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons, 12noon to 4pm. Inside is a huge selection of paperbacks, reference, and children’s books as well as jigsaws.

For young visitors there is the children’s play area into which Thanet District Council (TDC) installed an inclusive swing seat last year and we are currently discussing with them the possibility of additional equipment suitable for younger children.

The modern and comfortable Ellington Park Café is open Tuesday to Sunday, 10am to 4pm with friendly staff offering a wide range of hot food, snacks, drinks and ice creams.

It hosts weekly groups and talks, including crafters, gardeners, wellness and socialising, local history, and archaeology. With such a range of groups, you’re sure to find something to suit you!

Following on from the successful National Lottery Heritage funding in partnership with TDC to restore the original features, build the new café and facilities, children’s play area and improve the landscaping, the Friends of Ellington Park are proud that last year we were able to retain our Green Flag and Heritage Site awards as well as winning two prestigious accolades from The Ramsgate Society’s Design Awards for Public Realm and Building of the Year categories.

None of this would be possible without the continued hard work of the many volunteers over the years. The Friends of Ellington Park really do appreciate all that you do, whether it’s litter picking, gardening and maintaining areas of the park, helping with events, in the bookshop or café or helping with all the other things behind the scenes. The park is for everyone, and with the volunteers’ help, we aim to make the space better for the whole community.

So, what’s on at the park?

The Friends of Ellington and other organisations host a number of welcoming events for all throughout the year, which are free entry.

The next big event coming up this year is the May Fayre on Sunday May 19th, 10am to 6pm, organised by the team at Ellington Park Café. This is a fun day for all the family, with music on the bandstand, classic cars, a funfair, a variety of stalls and so much more.

Another great event coming up in July is the Picnic in the Park on Saturday July 27th, 11am to 7pm. Come along and bring a picnic or buy something tasty in the park and enjoy the live music at the bandstand!

The miniature steam trains, operated by The Ramsgate and District Model Engineering Club will be running at all the events and during the summer. Please check their running schedules on their website: www.radmec.co.uk
