Dover Lifeguard Club: County Championships success

A group of talented youngsters from Dover Lifeguard Club have come back from the Kent County Swimming Championships with plentiful finalist medals, personal best times, and 8 podium finishes.


CommunityAd Exclusive - Dover Lifeguard Club: County Championships successTo qualify for the county championships is a massive achievement and this year 25 swimmers competed for the club at the London Aquatics Centre.

Three of those swimmers qualified for the first time; 10-year-olds Mollie Seccombe, Liza Shnitnikova and Austin Husk competed in 11 races between them.

Our podium winners were Jessica Steed, Verity Nicholas, Ashton Platts, Jack Manser, Ed Williams, and Club Captain Molly Lown.

Ashton competed as a para swimmer and in multi-classification results gained 5 golds in 100m Breaststroke, 100m Butterfly, 200IM, 200m and 400m freestyle along with three silver medals.

Strong performances secured Bronze medals for Verity (200m backstroke), Ed Williams (200m Individual medley) Jack Manser (200m breaststroke).

Molly Lown had a fantastic first weekend, gaining silver in the 50m Breaststroke final, narrowly missing out on 1st position by 0.01 of a second in a time of 34.80 seconds. She also secured a silver in the 100m Breaststroke finals.

After achieving 2nd place in the 50m Freestyle race, 11-year-old Jessica Steed was victorious in the 50m Butterfly, winning Gold in an exciting final on the last afternoon of the competition. She completed the race setting a new personal best long course time of 31.84 seconds.

In total, over 50 finalist medals were won throughout the championships by Alex Scott, Lawrence Scott, Miles Van Delden, Jessica Steed, Verity Nicholas, Rosie Hollands, Jack Manser, Ed Williams, Ivan Petrov, Lewis Head, Chloe Desiderio, Molly Lown who came away with many medals and new personal best times. Joining them was long serving member Jordan Rogers-Mills, who returned from university to compete in her 10thyear at county champs, gaining 4th in the girls 17 yrs and over final for 50m Butterfly. Tommy Goldup competed for the last time for the club gaining a bronze in the 50m Butterfly, he has now embarked on the next stage of his swimming career and the club wish him every success for his exciting future.
