Deal Cares

It has been long-known to the team here at CommunityAd that the community spirit and empathy thriving within our little haven of a seaside town is second to none.

Every issue of our magazine is full of stories that reinforce that exact sentiment but even with such a decent caring community every now and then a story comes along that surpasses expectations and demonstrates what a special place Deal is. That was the case in early October with the touching tale of Aaron and Butch.

Resident Michelle Howard met Aaron and the adorable Butch when they were living on the streets of Deal last year, when Aaron and his beloved Butch were moved into emergency accommodation Michelle stayed in touch. She was sad to learn of Aaron’s misery with the living conditions in the accommodation and it wasn’t long before Aaron and Butch were back on the streets of Deal.

Learning that Butch, his precious dog, now has cancer, and that there is no treatment available Michelle wanted him and Butch to be as comfortable as possible and has frequently got them into a last-minute B&B; however, at £40 a night minimum this isn’t sustainable. So, she felt inspired to start a fundraiser with the hope that the community of Deal could help raise enough for a few nights in a B&B for the affable Aaron and his beloved Butch.

Not only did the community of Deal respond quickly it responded generously; the £500 target was smashed within days and the backing of the community has seen Aaron not only housed but also offered work. The fundraiser started by Michelle may now represent a life changing moment for Aaron as he’s used the money raised to purchase work boots and trousers and on October 13th Michelle declared to his many Facebook supporting friends “HE ONLY WENT AND GOT THE JOB, I’m so proud of him”.

A touching story that wouldn’t have been possible without the amazing generosity of the community to which Michelle and Aaron have been overwhelmed with. So, keep doing what you do, the good townspeople of Deal.
