What do you find aesthetically so charming about Frimley and its surrounding areas?

Overall, it’s an area of outstanding natural beauty. Whether you’re a photographer, fisherman, walker, runner, mountain biker, sailor, or canal enthusiast I find the area is captivating, the people friendly and I never find myself stuck wondering what to do and see here.

What’s your favourite season as a photographer and why?

Being a photographer, I embrace all of our seasons, although autumn has to be everyone’s favourite simply because of the diversity of colours. This is especially significant with the lakes, ponds and forest in the local area. The reflections during autumn can be very special especially around sunrise and sunset. Winter has its challenges too, especially getting up early when it’s cold, raining or even snowing. I get up early, before sunrise, every day of the week throughout the year. There’s so much beauty at that time of day, before the light gets too harsh.

When did you first pick up a camera? What inspired you to do so?

I have been taking photographs since a young age but really started to develop my photography over the past 10 years following encouragement and inspiration from my wife. My wife pointed out that the majority of my photographs showed that I had good eye with regards the composition and framing of my photography.

Your website showcases your wonderful diverse photography, you’re inspired by all sorts, aren’t you?

I am indeed, since taking up photography seriously, I see things differently, especially colour. I don’t think there is any one genre of photography that particularly inspires me. I see the beauty of the world we live in, be that a landscape, seascape, architecture and much more. I would class myself as a generalist. If it’s aesthetically pleasing to my eye, I try and capture that moment.

My website showcases my favourite photographs from within the UK (especially our local (3 Counties) area), Europe and even some from further afield like Russia and the United Arab Emirates.

What bit of advice would you give to any novices starting out in photography?

I guess, for anyone starting out in photography, I would say just get out there, consider what you are looking at and try to compose a shot that is pleasing to you, that tells a story and helps you create that memory.

When it comes to starting out, enjoy it, don’t get caught up in the need to have the best camera and lenses. You don’t need a high end DSLR to create a good photograph. A camera phone is a great starting place and will help you develop the basics. Join a local camera club (Sandhurst, Yateley and Bracknell all have good clubs that can help you.). Once you have a good idea of how to take a photograph then you can move onto a bridge camera or even a DSLR but always remember it’s not the camera that makes a good photograph, it’s the person behind it.
