Capel Youth Club celebrates its belated 40th birthday

Capel Youth Club, which has been a staple in the community for 42 years, recently celebrated its 40th birthday which had to be repeatedly delayed due to COVID and the ensuing lockdowns.

However, the youth club finally got to revel in its 40th anniversary party and the village of Capel-le-Ferne was a brighter place for it. Full of laughter, dancing, and delicious cake, the evening was a sign towards returning to some form of normality for the village.

Capel Youth Club is open to local children aged between 8-16 and runs every 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month and provides a safe, welcoming environment for children to socialise, try new activities and make new friends. However, like most organisations, the club had to come to a halt for the best part of two years due to COVID.

The party was originally planned for 2020, but they were recently able to celebrate in style, with a joyous party at Capel Village Hall. The evening was catered with some delectable food by Streetz2Streetz, the 40th birthday balloons were supplied by Tops Balloons, the flowers by Capel Floral Services and the incredible much-loved music was supplied by Marylebone Jelly.

Simon Withey is the Chairman of Capel Youth Club and has been for the past 13 years, repeatedly getting voted in year after year, and it’s his commitment and dedication that has helped the self-funded youth club survive after so many youth clubs continue to close across the country. We tip our hats off to Simon with his team of 9 leaders, all of whom are volunteers like just Simon giving up their time to make the community a nicer place to live.

If you are able to volunteer any of your time, get in touch with Simon through the Capel Youth Club Facebook page; any time you can give can go a long way to helping.
