Burgess Hill Town FC – raring to get going again

The last year has been a write off for more localised football, whilst those in the professional tiers finished their season, smaller clubs had to call a halt on their title chasing dreams for the foreseeable future. Although the road was long and the grass lay unbothered for some time, Burgess Hill Town FC (BHTFC) are hoping for an uninterrupted year of football as they look forward to the 2021/2022 season.

CommunityAd caught up with General Manager of Burgess Hill Town FC (BHTFC), John Rattle, to find out a little bit more about his role within the club, and to discuss one of the team’s most difficult seasons during a time where the least amount of football was actually played.

John joined the ranks in 2011 as the GK coach and was asked to follow Richard Strange as General Manager in 2014, overseeing the work of the club’s volunteers and providing a link between the playing side of the club and the off the field team.

Commenting on the impact of COVID-19 and the ensuing lockdowns on BHTFC John said: “It has been a very testing time for all clubs at our level but hopefully, with the grants available from both the government and the FA, the club can return stronger than before the pandemic. We can’t wait to see our supporters back at the ground and hopefully play a full season.

“Our hopes are to play a full season without any interruptions. On the pitch we want to be competing in all competitions we enter and give our supporters something to cheer.

“The first team have now returned to preseason training along with our U18’s too. The non-league players of today are very good at looking after their bodies but they have had nearly six months off since the last competitive game in December, so getting them back to match fitness will be key for Jay Lovett and his management team this preseason.

“The club wants to make the local community proud of their non-league football club and it will be great to see our loyal supporters and even better to see new faces from the town back at the More Than Tyres Stadium.

“We have a great junior section for boys and girls. As well as two women’s teams and we just want people to get involved with BHTFC. We also have commercial opportunities to cater for any business – big or small.”
