Birchington Sponsored Walk for Action for Children

Every year, there is a Birchington Sponsored Walk for Action for Children starting from the Methodist Church opposite the Smugglers Restaurant.

The Charity was started by a Methodist Minister, Rev. Thomas Bowman Stephenson, as National Children’s Homes, in 1869 ,when he rescued some London children living on the streets and provided them with a home, education and care. The Charity changed its name to ‘Action for Children’ in 2008 to reflect changes in society away from small family-run homes to a much wider scope of support & advocacy for cared-for children and their families.

There is one AfC Project in our area and all the money raised from the Walk goes there, to South East Fostering. Kevin White, who has been the Project Manager for many years, will be giving an update on the project during the Trinity Sunday morning service at the Church.
