‘Allo’ Neighbours – Playhouse Theatre Whitstable

It seems in almost every issue of your CommunityAd magazine we’re prompting readers to get to the Playhouse Theatre, and why shouldn’t we, it’s a terrific community asset that offers us a wealth of cultural performances.

More often than not these performances which we prompt you to are the works of the Lindley Players, another community asset that we will proudly support until our quills run dry or our keyboards turn faulty. However, for this issue it’s not the Lindley who are responsible for the call to theatrical arms (or seats more aptly) but a Herne Bay based Theatre Company.

I know what you’re thinking reader, a theatre company from where? HERNE BAY as in the noisy neighbours, the seaside rivals? Performing here at the Playhouse, here? At the jewel in our cultural crown? What in the name of holy matrimony is this? Well reader, it’s merely a creative collaboration for the good of all, there’s no real tribalism when it comes to arts. So, we welcome our Herne Bay neighbours into our theatre with a warm “Hello” or “Allo” might be more appropriate.

Yes, we’re delighted to inform you that the award-winning Theatre Company, Theatrecraft Herne Bay, is bringing the very British comedy ‘Allo ‘Allo to the Playhouse Whitstable. ‘It follows the adventures of Rene, a hapless café owner in Nazi occupied France, and his wife Edith, who entertains their patrons with her special brand of “cabaret”. Rene must keep many secrets; he has concealed a priceless portrait in a knockwurst sausage on behalf of the Nazis (but plans to keep it for himself), he is reluctantly hiding two British Airmen for the French Resistance and there will be big trouble if his wife discovers his amorous affairs with his young waitresses’.

It’s a must watch for fans of the Cult Classic TV show and those theatre goers that enjoy a good knee slapping laugh. ‘Allo ‘Allo runs from Wednesday 13th April 2022 until Saturday 16th April 2022. Don’t hesitate get your (really reasonable £10) tickets sharpish, while you’re doing so why not book yourself in for another show or two? There’s plenty of variety filling the Playhouse stage over the coming months and theatres now more than ever need their communities to get behind them… by paying to sit down in front of them.
