Tourism representatives from across the district have come together to harness the exciting opportunities of becoming part of the England’s Coast project, through White Cliffs Country, following a key tourism event organised by Dover District Council.

An informative free workshop was held on 2nd October at the Sandwich Guildhall. Over 20 local businesses, including visitor attractions and hospitality providers, along with town councils and tour/greeter groups were represented at the event.

The England’s Coast project (funded by Visit England’s Discover England Fund) is a new tourism initiative highlighting a wealth of holiday options and experiences around the coast, as well as promoting visitor businesses, attractions and hospitality providers nationally and internationally.

Cllr MJ Holloway, DDC Portfolio Holder for Community and Tourism, said: “We are delighted to have been able to become a partner of the England’s Coast project, and we are now able to pass the benefits of this partnership on to our district providers.

“Our England’s Coast workshop marked another exciting step as we continue to work with our partners to shine a light on the many fantastic attractions in Dover District. The event helped us and our district providers to work together with professional national bodies to create and showcase our products, attractions and experiences, and to continue to promote the district as a world class destination.”

Samantha Richardson, Director of the National Coastal Tourism Academy which delivers the England’s Coast project, commented: “It’s been extremely encouraging to see the high level of engagement from visitor-facing businesses at the workshop in Sandwich. It’s also been very useful to discover more about White Cliffs Country’s unique and impressive tourism product from the delegates, knowledge that will help us showcase the very best of the area to the international travel trade and the media.  Dover, Deal and Sandwich are perfectly placed to benefit from increased international visitors and we look forward to welcoming new businesses signing up for free to England’s Coast.”
