A Lotto Success for Local Good Causes with Dover District Lottery
Dover District Lottery raises £68,000 for local charities and community groups
Local good causes across the Dover district have raised £68,000 over the past two years thanks to players of the Dover District Lotto.
The Lottery was launched by Dover District Council (DDC) in 2019 to help local charities, community, and voluntary groups with their fundraising.
For every £1 spent on the Dover District Lottery, 50p goes direct to the participating local good causes. There is no cost to the good causes, and they are provided with their own branded web page and marketing materials to help them promote ticket sales for their cause.
A further 10p in the £1 goes to the Dover District Community Grants programme which has been boosted by over £13,500 in addition to the £22,500 committed to the programme by DDC in 2020.
One hundred and twenty-nine local good causes across the Dover district are benefiting from the lottery, including groups supporting youth work, the elderly, and people with disabilities, along with community centres, animal charities, groups protecting the environment or preserving local history, and local sports groups.
Tracey Ward, Chief Officer for Age Concern in Sandwich, said: “We value the money raised through the Dover District Lottery, particularly during the Covid-19 Pandemic when our income and fundraising opportunities have been severely reduced.
“We have been supporting our clients with Meals on Wheels, regular welfare calls, shopping and prescription delivery, information and signposting. These services have been a lifeline for our clients, many of whom have been shielding.”
Cllr Nigel Collor, Portfolio Holder for Transport, Licensing and Community, said: “The Dover District Lottery has been a huge success and has helped many local good causes struggling with fundraising during the pandemic.
“Many of these community and voluntary organisations have played a key role in the local response, helping some of the most vulnerable people in the community.
“Every Dover District Lottery player has contributed to this amazing effort.”
