Life at CommunityAd – Our week with birds and the bees!

birds and the bees

We’ve now come to the end of another fabulous week with the birds and the bees, we’ve weathered the storm, we’ve all got frizzy hair (Georgia even brought her straighteners in today and straightened her hair at lunch!), but what a laugh we’ve had!

We’ve got to give it to England, it was still so hot despite the torrential downpour that happened Wednesday night. I know I had a taste of the storm’s wrath when I walked in Thursday morning to find my desk flooded, almost like a scene out of the Titanic minus Leonardo DiCaprio! Luckily, all of my paperwork was safe, soggy, but safe. Phew! Glynne, Sarah, Shaun, thanks for helping me mop up and relocate my desk! birds and the bees

It wasn’t just the rain that decided to visit us IN the office this week. A huge bee which Niki quickly discovered was a queen bee popped by to say hello. I imagine the poor bee felt unwelcome and couldn’t work out why everyone was screaming causing absolute havoc, until our very own bug saving expert, Sarah, swiftly, AND CAREFULLY showed her royalty the way out. Not forgetting the birds that come with the bees, we mentioned cranky-sounding seagulls last week, well guess what, our office is now surrounded with cute fluffy baby seagulls! The squabs have been putting a smile on our face all week, a pleasant indication of our appreciation of all that is beautiful in nature! birds and the bees

The editorial team have had a brilliant week writing up local stories for Deal and Whitstable. This week involved interviewing some fantastic individuals with very inspirational stories! A couple of interviews for you to look out for is our interview with James Beardwell from Essex who also appeared on ITV’s This Morning to talk about his recent MBE award, and reminding us that age is truly just a number – an interview with Aneela Rose from Burgess Hill who is a 49-year-old powerlifting champion- wow!

Although the editorial team were one member down this week, their hard work has continued to pay off. Our editor Matt even got invited to attend the open day for Sherfield-on-Loddon Village Hall’s new kitchen as a thank you for all our support! Matt, if you’re reading this, bring us back some food please! Writing stories wasn’t the only reason why Matt has been a busy-bee. We’ve had a flood of applications from eager individuals flowing in for our recently advertised editorial assistant position. It has been a pleasure reviewing everyone’s CV and we are excited to interview the chosen applicants next week! Good luck to everyone being interviewed!

Of course, we can’t forget about our amazing sales team as we round up the week. Our Sales Manager, Kat, was greatly missed this week, especially by our big boss Kelly who has had to step in and sales manage on top of all her other million job roles (no rest for the wicked)! Whilst Kat has been sunning it up in Gibraltar and sending us snaps of all the cocktails, you can definitely tell THE boss is in the sales room…there seems to be a lot better timekeeping this week and the phones are overheating from overuse! Whilst we are on the topic of our sales team, now is a great opportunity to mention how happy we are for the sales members that have recently joined our team for their amazing achievements. This week, Gary has reached his highest sales record to date, Claire herself has reached her first ever book target, and Martin has just taken over our brand new and combined Rochester, Frindsbury and Strood magazine title! Huge congratulations to all of you! Kelly – the sales team will miss you next week, we enjoy your constant enthusiasm for us to PICK-UP THE PHONE and the laughter we’ve had despite how busy you are! Thank you.

Now, if you’re reading this thinking, you or someone you know would like to work for a company as whacky as ours then now’s the time! We are looking for an editorial assistant, a distribution team leader and a sales executive to join our wonderful team – send us your CVs to [email protected] – be warned though, we are all bonkers!

This challenging yet fulfilling week full of sweat and laughter is now coming to and end with a few 18-inch pizzas and chats about the weekend ahead. In case you’ve forgotten, it’s Father’s Day this Sunday so if you haven’t already, you best get something fast! If you don’t know what to buy, why not take him out instead?
