Clark Family’s Beloved Christmas Lights Display Returns After Public Support

Christmas lights on a house

The Clark family of Colonels Lane, Boughton-under-Blean, has announced that their famous Christmas lights display will return this year after briefly cancelling it due to personal matters. This decision comes in response to an overwhelming show of support from the community between Canterbury and Faversham.

Community Support Spurs Reversal

Initially, Ross and Michelle Clark declared with heavy hearts that the lights would not adorn their home this Christmas. However, they were inundated with messages of support from friends, family, and fans that prompted a change of heart. The couple’s decision to go ahead with the display reflects the community’s affection for this festive tradition.

Thanks to the outreach from local supporters and relatives, they plan to start decorating within the next week. The display is set to be unveiled on November 24, honouring the memory of their late son, Jack.

Honouring Loved Ones Through Light

The dazzling display began as a tribute to their son, Jack, who was born prematurely in 2002 but died six days later. Since then, the modest arrangement of lights has expanded into a major local attraction, bringing joy to residents and visitors alike for nearly two decades.

This year, the family’s fundraising efforts will benefit two charities: the Oliver Fisher Special Care Baby Trust and Myeloma UK, the latter chosen following the death of Ross’s father in July. Ross fondly recalls his father’s charismatic presence during past events, making this year’s fundraising particularly meaningful.

Fundraising and Recognition

Last Christmas, the Clarks raised funds for the Tiny Toes campaign, aiding neonatal services at local hospitals. Previously, they have contributed significant sums to various charitable causes dear to them, enhancing the festive spirit with a charitable heart.

Their charitable efforts have also earned them recognition. They reached the final four in the south-east region of the Pride of Britain awards and were honoured with the Gordon Ottaway Good Citizen Award by the Boughton-under-Blean Parish Council.

A Return to Tradition

With the community’s support, the Clarks are set to light up Colonels Lane once more, continuing a cherished local tradition. The festive display not only symbolises holiday cheer but also fosters unity and goodwill, reinforcing the Clark family’s connection to their community.
