A Dover District Council CCTV operator has been commended by Kent Police for their role in the identification of a burglar following, in March, a number of break-ins on shops and businesses in Dover. The CCTV footage was key to the success of the operation following the burglaries, and to a prosecution.

The Certificate of Merit from Chief Superintendent Andrea Bishop was awarded to the CCTV operator to commend ‘dedication, commitment and professionalism’.

Chief Superintendent Andrea Bishop said about the CCTV operator:

“It is clear they have local knowledge which is second to none and this has been invaluable. They have demonstrated a work ethic that is exemplary, working extended hours to support officers at incidents, and providing quality evidence. Working in partnership with officers from the Local Policing Team at Dover, they play a significant part in reducing the rate of burglaries in the town centre.”

Cllr MJ Holloway, DDC Cabinet Member for Community Services and Chairman of the Dover District Community Safety Partnership Executive, said: “

It’s terrific to see this recognition from Kent Police for a member of the district CCTV team.  The CCTV team are silent heroes in helping to keep our businesses and residents safe. DDC’s CCTV network, which includes 46 cameras, located throughout the district, plays a key role in community safety.  In the coming months, DDC is looking to modernize the district CCTV network, increasing its capacity to offer Kent Police and other agencies an even more effective tool to deter and fight criminality and anti-social behaviour across the district.  Working in close partnership with Kent Police to keep Dover District a safe place to live, work and visit is a key priority for DDC.”
