Ashford art project, Home, goes national

What comes to mind when you hear the word ‘home’?

Home means something different to us all, but for the women in Ashford’s Syrian Refugee Resettlement programme, it probably has a very different meaning now than it did previously.

Integrating these women into our community and giving them a new sense of home has always been a critical part of our involvement with the programme, and recently we were able to partner with a couple of other organisations as well as talented artist Anna Ray to help connect them with like-minded Ashford women.

Anna worked with the women to help build a beautiful art exhibition entitled ‘Home’, allowing them to express their interpretations of the word in a unique way, while forging friendships and creating something beautiful.

The project caught the attention of the BBC’s Inside Out programme, who came to the opening of the exhibition in County Square to interview some of those involved.

You can watch the video below to find out more about it, or read People United’s ‘Exploring Home’ blog which has some great photos of the exhibition and women involved.
