New grants scheme open for bids

Panto exhibition opening soon in Canterbury

The city council’s new initiative designed to fund projects and services to meet local needs has now opened for applications.

The RISE programme supports not-for-profit organisations to deliver much-needed high quality services to local people through a variety of funding and support schemes.

As part of this programme, innovation grants help organisations to get started with a new idea. The maximum award is £3,000 and proposals must contribute to the priorities set out in the council’s Corporate Plan. Applications must be submitted by Friday 3 November.

Strategic grants are aimed at organisations that are already achieving good things and want to take their work to the next level. The maximum award is £30,000 and proposals must contribute to the council’s strategic grant priorities. Applications must be submitted by Tuesday 28 November.

Improvement grants are available to those organisations that need a bit of extra help to develop their resilience and help move towards financial sustainability. Find out further information about these grants.

Chairman of the council’s Community Committee, Cllr Neil Baker, said: “We support local voluntary, cultural and sports organisations to the tune of £1.4 million every year, through a combination of grants, rent concessions and development support. These groups do wonderful work in the community and we are proud to help them to such an extent.

“The new grants scheme has been developed in conjunction with them so that the funding really meet their needs. We would particularly welcome applications from groups and organisations that have never approached us before.”

A workshop to explain how the RISE grants scheme operates and assist groups in making an application will take place on Monday 30 October, from 2.30pm to 4.30pm, at Thanington Neighbourhood Resource Centre.
