Man arrested after police dog aided a search on the M20

Guilty verdict of kidnap

A 54-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving and drug offences after a police dog aided a search on the M20.

Officers were called to a report of a crash at the Junction 11 roundabout in Hythe at 6.50pm on Sunday 20 August 2017.

The driver was reported to have decamped and left the scene, a search was carried out of the surrounding area with no result.

A police dog named Eli, pictured with handler PC Ed Goldswain, was deployed to search the dense undergrowth of the roundabout itself.

After following a hidden track over rough terrain PD Eli found the suspect hiding among a set of bushes.

The man, who lives in Basingstoke, was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving and being in possession of Class A and Class B drugs.

He was also arrested on suspicion of driving while uninsured and stealing a diving licence. He remains in police custody.
