A bit about Whitstable

Whitstable is a seaside town situated on the North Kent Coast and is famous for its oysters which have been collected since Roman times. The Crab and Oyster railway line which was designed by William James and opened in 1830 is said to be one of the earliest passenger train services and was also used to transport freight along its 6 mile track from Whitstable town centre to Westgate in Canterbury. Today Whitstable is a thriving seaside town with blue flag beaches and a picturesque harbour where you can enjoy some of the best sunsets in Kent. Whitstable is home to many art galleries such as the fish slab, Whitstable museum and art gallery and The Walker Platt Gallery and also has many fine pubs and restaurants.
